InSPIREd Sunday - St. John the Baptist Church

My goodness! It has been ages since I have posted. I have taken a few photos but not many so it is time to restart. These were taken last month.

InSPIREd Sunday - Sts. Peter & Paul

I have so much to be thankful for. It has been another couple of fire-related stress-filled days here in Washington's Methow Valley. Yesterday, another significant fire started two miles from our house. Fortunately, the wind was blowing away from us but other homeowners were not so lucky. Then today, a thunderstorm rolled through our valley with lots of lightning and high winds which led to several downed trees and power outages. We were one of the homes that lost power but no damage from trees. Power returned just over an hour ago. The lightning did trigger several more fires to go with the ones already burning here. It has been a very bad fire season so far and we still have a few months to go. But enough fire updates (I promise to post pictures soon).

Today's InSPIREd Sunday church is Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Richmond, Minnesota. Again, the spire was spotted in the distance as I traveled down the country highway enroute to the airport in Minneapolis.

InSPIREd Sunday - Immanuel Lutheran

To my fellow InSPIREd Sunday participants - I was unable to visit blogs last week. I having been living in the midst of a vey large (250,000 acres) wildfire that caused so much damage to our community. Over 300 houses in the Methow Valley/Pateros, Washington area were lost in the Carlton Complex fire with one reported fire-related death. It was truly a firestorm and the largest fire in Washington state's history. I will have pictures to share in a day or so.

We were without power starting last Thursday through yesterday around noon. What a relief to have our power restored! Unless you have to live long periods without electricity, it is very easy to take it for granted.

But back to InSPIREd Sunday.

InSPIREd Sunday - St. Mary's

Welcome to this weekend's edition of InSPIREd Sunday.

Here is another example of spotting a tall spire from a distance.

Getting to this church was a bit of a challenge because of the railroad tracks. Trying to find the crossing required a few blocks of back tracking once I got into town. But it was worth it!

InSPIREd Sunday - St. John the Baptist

It has been a busy few weeks and I have been very remiss in visiting the InSPIREd Sunday participants. Tomorrow is out - it's an all-day travel day for me as I head back to Minnesota for a week. If I can get my packing done in a timely manner tonight, I hope to visit a few blogs.

InSPIREd Sunday - St. Anthony

On one of my drives back and forth to Minneapolis-St. Paul airport, I took yet another route through the countryside to get there. It is a great way to see something different and to find churches. Spires are so easy to spot in the wide open expanses of farm country and this one was no exception.

I am not exactly sure how, but St. Anthony is connected to Seven Dolors that I previously shared. I guess because the community of St. Anthony is less than 6 miles from Albany where Seven Dolors is located.

A brief history of the church can be found here.

InSPIREd Sunday - Moorhead, Minnesota

I have long been intrigued by a church I see along Interstate 94 in Moorhead, Minnesota. It has a unique shape and peaked my interest. I bet the stained glass windows are beautiful from inside.

InSPIREd Sunday - Crookston, MN

This is the original Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception in Crookston, Minnesota. It is unusual in that it has three spires for a neo-Gothic church since most only have two. It was built in 1912 by Bert Keck.

It is no longer in use as a church, having been replaced by a newer (and less impressive, IMO) cathedral in 1990. It was given to a homeless shelter which used it for additional space. Today, it looks totally unoccupied and plans are to turn the former church into a performing arts space.

Across the street and up a few doors is another former church. I couldn't find much information on it.
