I liked the weathervane on this steeple. It has a delicate filigree look to it.

Five for Friday - Minnesota Air National Guard

Minnesota Air National Guard, Minneapolis, MN - May 2013
Here's a different view taken from a different location in the airport on a different day. Do I fly into Minneapolis-St. Paul Airport too much? Yes.

Booming!

A booming we will go, a booming we will go, hi ho the derry-o, a booming we will go.

That just might be the theme song for prairie chickens each Spring as the males perform their mating ritual called booming. The male stomps his feet and lets out a booming sound from air sacs on each side of his neck.

Prairie chickens, while once plentiful on the open prairies, have dropped in significant numbers due to over-hunting and loss of habitat. The town of Rothsay, Minnesota bills itself as the Prairie Chicken Capital of the World and boasts it is the home of the largest prairie chicken in the world. If this statue is any indication, I can only imagine how beautiful these birds are in real life.

Barn Charm - Dilworth Drive Bys

I see this barn every time I drive back and forth on Hwy 10 going the airport in Fargo, North Dakota. I finally snapped a drive by shot so it is a little blurred. It still is a nice looking barn, no matter how you look at it.

I also see this lovely barn in Dilworth.

InSPIREd Sunday - St. John

Welcome to InSPIREd Sunday where Beth from "E." Lizard Breath Speaks and I are hosting shots each week of churches, temples or other buildings where religious services are held.

This week I am sharing the spire from St. John Lutheran church in Elizabeth, Minnesota. This was taken on an overcast day last December. The base of the spire looks like large "M's". Maybe in honor of Mary, or Minnesota, or May, or...

    Rurality - Prom Night

Once you get out of the downtown Fargo, North Dakota area, it is primarily an agricultural landscape. Farm after farm, pastures and fields galore. Quite nice actually, since I prefer the rural lifestyle.

The other weekend was Prom Night for many of the schools in West Central Minnesota and the Fargo area. You know you are in farm or ranch country when your limo ride to prom looks like this:

Barn Charm - New York Mills & A Followup

Barn near New York Mills, Minnesota - March 2013
A few weeks ago, I shared a picture of Big Green. I also had commented how I was able to see this barn from high above as I flew home from Minnesota to Seattle but didn't think to take a picture. This time as I flew home, I had my camera ready! I knew about when in the flight I would need to start looking. I was a bit worried because the flight this trip was on a more northern path than the last one and US Hwy 2 was almost out of my line of sight below as we flew west of Spokane. But there she was! You have to look really hard (enlarge the picture) to see the big green roof of the barn. I used the digital zoom to get an even closer shot and the picture quality suffers because of that. At least you can see the barn better.

    InSPIREd Sunday - Rural Virginia

Happy Mother's Day to all the mothers out there! And welcome to InSPIREd Sunday.

Today's photo is from our co-host, Beth, over at "E. Lizard Breath Speaks". This church is in rural Virginia, no close neighbors. Beth loves the red doors and stained glass windows. For more details on it, hop on over to Beth's blog.

Barn Charm - Sunset on the Farm

I passed by this barn and had to turn around and come back to do a sloooow drive by capture. I like the brickwork on it. This was a neat and tidy farm - well cared for even though the top of the silo is missing.

    InSPIREd Sunday - St. Edward

Welcome to InSPIREd Sunday where Beth from "E." Lizard Breath Speaks and I are hosting shots each week of churches, temples or other buildings where religious services are held.

Me, I like spires and that is what I typically will post. But who knows what I might come across in my travels and end up sharing.

These twin spires are atop the old St. Edward Catholic Church in Henning, Minnesota. A new and larger church has been built down the street but I think it totally lacks the character of the old building. I mean, look at the tiny peaks that encircle the two spires and other details on the tower. I wish someone would buy this old church and do some restoration.
