Near the town of Methow, Washington, is a pretty little horse farm with white vinyl fencing for their pasture. The recent firestorm left their farm fairly intact except for where the fire burned close to one of their fence lines. As you can see, the fencing didn't fare very well against the heat and is not quite good fencing these days. The good news is that the horses were safe.

Good Fences - Montana
First I was captured by the buttes (or mesas, plateaus or table landforms) receding into the distance. Then I noticed the fence. :-)

Good Fences - It Takes All Kinds
On our recent trip to Nevada, we passed several different kinds of snow fencing. I started snapping photos in Oregon.
Little did we know that the next day we would actually be driving in the snow. In a Corvette, no less! If that didn't add some stress and/or excitement to the day! Whew. I was glad when we finally got far enough south in Nevada to get out of the snow zone.
As you can see, it takes all kinds of fencing to help keep the drifting snow off of the roadways in the winter.
I am joining up with the Run*A*Round Ranch and the Good Fences meme which was recently started to take the place of Friday's Fences.

All Aboard!
My work schedule was really hectic in January with having to work at a couple of boat shows on the weekends along with my regular work schedule. One of the shows was in Seattle, Washington. To get there, I took Amtrak from the Wenatchee station. The cost of the train versus fuel, parking and the hassle of dealing with mountain passes via car was significantly less. Plus I love to travel by train.
The train crosses the Cascade Mountains and then runs alongside Puget Sound from Everett to Seattle. It is a very picturesque trip!
The return trip two days later was at sunset.

Friday's Fences - The Eagle and Raccoons
Here's another piece of art by Chad Smith in the park near my winter home in Minnesota (BTW, there is something wrong with that statement - shouldn't I have a winter home in say, Arizona?)

Friday's Fences - It's Corny
I have driven past the Sculpture Park in New York Mills, Minnesota many times. I stopped last winter but it was snow-covered and I didn't get out to take many photos. This week after work, I stopped in for the sole purpose of photographing the brightly painted yellow metal ribbon fence. It was harder than I thought. The park is surrounded on three sides by roads including a main highway and off-ramp plus a county road and another street. I was trying to keep as much of the road surfaces as possible out of view.
It wasn't until I got up closer to the fence that I noticed the fence adornments were metal ears of corn. Then I got even closer and noticed the differences in the pieces. Each one was personalized in some way. One ear of corn was stamped "Cast Iron Corn 1997". In doing an internet search, a sculptor by the name of Coral Lambert was involved in this fence project. The ears of corn were done by residents of New York Mills during a community pour. I really enjoyed some of the work that was done. I hope you enjoy it, too!
